Ready or not, here we go!

Nearing the end of the season

Davis is near the end of the cross country season. He is running 4 minutes faster for a 5k (3.1miles) than he was at the beginning of the season. Friday was the Ventura County Championship meet at Lake Casitas and he ran about 2minutes faster than he did at an invitational on the same course about a month ago. Its been a very fun season and he's done a great job. I love going to the meets.

Good morning Newbury Park. This is what the field looked like at the beginning of Nathaniel's soccer game Saturday, 8am. They couldn't see the other end of the field. It's a good thing their jerseys are neon or we couldn't see them.
By halftime it was clear blue skies and the temp jumped from 60-ish to nearly 80.

Nathaniel is #12 on the yellow/black team and he has orange shoes. Bright shoes make happy feet.

Nathaniel did great. A good start to the season.

Running Boy

Nathaniel ran the 400 M in the All City Track Meet today. He was awesome so I had to post the video. He starts in the inside lane. He's wearing a bright blue shirt with black shorts. He leads until the last straightaway (and then I was yelling and didn't film the key part of the race) when he is passed by a kid from his school. He did great and was so excited. I apologize for the crummy filming, for some reason the video seems like it's in slow motion or skips or something - but, with the music, I think it works. Also, I didn't know how to crop the end so after Nathaniel pumps his arms to celebrate his medal, nothing else really happens so you can turn it off.

Groovy Peace and Love School Program

Nathaniel's school had their Winter Program on Friday. It was a very tie-dyed affair. Two years ago they stopped having the winter program right before Christmas break. It was supposed to be a scheduling thing, but I guess it was a convenient way to avoid the hassle of balancing Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanza songs with the non-denominational groovy songs of which the powers that be at our school are so fond. So we were treated to the timeless philosophies of Peter, Paul, and Mary and The Beetles (I guess 40 year old counter-culture jargon has become appropriate fodder for children) along with the songs prepared by each grade level. Here is Nathaniel in orange jamming to "Brand New Day". Forgive the follicle-shot of the lady in front of me. She needed to mess with her hair after taking off her hat.

At the end of the program, they played music while the children wait to file off the risers. It must have been a song Nathaniel particularly enjoyed because he played air guitar and danced the whole time.

So, now that the winter program is over, I am declaring an official end to winter. I have firewood in the playroom that will have to go back out to the wood pile and wait until next fall. I'm done with winter. I'm almost done with my winter vegetables from the garden. Next week Daylight Savings Time starts. (It was in the announcement-program at church. Are we that centered on church that we need them to tell us when to change our clocks? I might be.) Let us move on to Spring!
